The Spine profile style is mostly noted for having a clear, centred, projecting sound and excellent response in the upper register. Despite being derived from the Parallel profile style, it has a fair amount of blowing resistance and behaves a bit like the Full Taper profile style in terms of attack response. It is a very stable reed, but this limits dynamic range and flexibility of articulation a bit. (In my opinion it is midway between the Moderate Taper and Parallel styles in this way.) Detractors might say this style has a sound that tends to be a bit metallic. This profile style doesn't seem to work as well in the longer blade lengths (32mm and 33mm).
